Aim: To give individuals who are considering a career in care the opportunity to experience a voluntary placement within an organisation, whilst at the same time achieving recognisable qualifications applicable to the care sector and beyond.
This 6-week program is an opportunity for individuals to gain experience of working in the care sector. Trainees undertake 2 weeks training with CTC followed by 4 weeks supervised placement with a care provider.
In the first two weeks trainees follow a structured timetable of certificated classroom learning, including exploring roles and responsibilities, first aid, manual handling, health and safety, infection control and supporting vulnerable groups. During this two weeks trainees are also prepared for their work experience placement.
In the following 4 weeks, trainees are supernumerary and shadow an experienced care practitioner. During this period trainees will keep a reflective log of their days culminating in the mentor providing written feedback on their performance, this standing them in good stead for the interview at the end of the program.
