SAMH’s Individual Placement and Support Services (IPS) support people with mental health problems to gain employment. Our employment specialist will help you identify what you want to do and support you to find a job that suits you. You will have a dedicated employment specialist who will offer you a range of services and you can choose what suits your needs and circumstances.
Stage 1 – Getting Started
Your employment specialist will work with you to identify what kind of job would suit you and what skills and experience you have to offer an employer. They will help you to identify what went well and what didn’t from any previous jobs you have had. You and your specialist will then create an action plan on how you are doing to get a job and what they will do to support you. They will also help you to get a ‘better off in work calculation’ to make sure that you will be financially better off than you are now.
Stage 2 – Getting a job
There is a wide range of different ways your SAMH employment specialist can help you to get a job. They can help you:
• Create or update your CV
• Carry out weekly job searches
• Complete applications
• Contact employers directly, with you or on your behalf
• Improve your interview skills
Stage 3 – In-work Support
Once you have been offered a job your SAMH employment specialist will help you to cope with your new role, provide advice and guidance on your role and how to do well in your role. They can also support you by speaking to your new employer to agree any reasonable adjustments you may need. They can also help you to learning your new role and to cope with any issues that may arise.
