At Venture Trust, we see the outdoors as therapeutic learning and development environments where participants can reflect, challenge themselves, discover their own identity and begin to consider a more optimistic future for themselves. With the guidance of a Community Outreach Support worker, participants will create their own map of personal goals and positive destinations and will be supported to achieve them.

All participants will be given the opportunity to participate on a Wilderness Journey which can see them travelling for anything up to ten days through the Scottish Highlands. The journeys can include walking, hiking, canoeing, camping, climbing, and abseiling, and will present mental, physical, and emotional challenges to overcome. Our Wilderness Field team are highly attuned to individual needs and use the outdoor obstacles for personal reflection and development.

On returning from their journey, participants will be supported to apply their learning to everyday life challenges and opportunities, particularly around education, training, and employment. The experience gives participants the skills, tools, and self-belief required to make the next step on their path towards employment. For those who are unable to participate in a Wilderness Journey for whatever reason, we will meet them in local green spaces and support them to create goals and plans for improving their circumstances.

Here's something you should know

Info Box

Employability programmes work a little differently from other courses, especially when it comes to eligibility. For example, someone from Glasgow wouldn't be eligible for a programme taking place in North Ayrshire, and vice versa. Check the Postcode Eligibility tab in the Things to Know section to make sure this programme is open to you.
